A man convicted of swiping actress Kirsten Dunst‘s purse from her SoHo hotel room was slapped with a four-year prison sentence Tuesday.

James Jimenez, whose novel defense was that he was too stupid to do the crime, kept up his clueless routine.

“I really don’t understand the charges. I don’t understand why I’m being charged,” he  protested to the judge.

“I understand,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Jill Konviser shot back, “because I presided over this trial and I’m familiar with all the evidence.”

“He still continues to deny his culpability and refuses to take responsibility for his actions,” said assistant district attorney Patricia Stolfi-Collins in demanding the max penalty of seven years.

She also alleged that Jimenez, a 36-year-old mechanic, perjured himself on the stand.

Jimenez was convicted of burglarly and trespassing in the high-profile case, in which the perp’s lawyer tried to paint the Spiderman star as a drug user.

Dunst denied on the stand that she was a pot smoker – testimony that defense lawyer Robert Parker said he will use in his appealing his client’s conviction.

“She certainly didn’t have to come to this trial and lie,” Parker said outside court, pointing to a previous interview in which she calls for the legalization  of  marijuana. The judge in the case had called the interview irrelevant.

Jimenez’s pal, Jarrod Beinerman, was also charged in the case, previous pleading guilty and was sentenced to 4 ½ years in prison for taking the $2,000 purse.

The lawyer has said Beinerman was in Dunst’s suite to sell drugs – and that Jimenez had no clue that he was staging a theft.

“I will certainly build a case against Ms. Dunst,” Parker said, saying he’ll  try convincing the district attorney to press perjury charges against the starlet.

“I don’t think there’s a person on this planet who would believe …she doesn’t smoke marijuana,” Parker said. “That is a complete fabrication.
